Financial Aid: How to Apply
Step: 1
Create an FSA ID
Go to studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and create your FSA ID or login if you have had an account before.
Your FSA ID serves as your electronic signature for the FAFSA application and other financial aid documents.
If you’re under 24, unmarried, and without dependents, your parents must also create an FSA ID to complete your FAFSA. For guidance on setting up an FSA ID, click here to watch a helpful instructional video: Need help creating an FSA ID?
Step: 2
Complete a FAFSA Application
To be eligible for Federal Pell Grants and Federal Direct Stafford Loans, every student must fill out a FAFSA application. Determine the necessary FAFSA applications by reviewing the dates provided, then visit studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa and sign in using your FSA ID. For instance, if you’re beginning school in January 2024, you should complete the FAFSA for both the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years.
How to Determine Which FAFSA to Complete:
Here’s a useful chart to guide you on which FAFSA applications you need to fill out during your time at VSKI Cosmetology School.

Step: 3
Schedule Follow-up Appointment
After you’ve submitted your FAFSA application(s), please contact the Financial Aid Office to arrange a follow-up meeting. You can reach us at 843-203-0000, selecting Option #2 for the school, or via email at info@vskicosmetology.com.
During this appointment, we’ll go over your FAFSA submission(s) to see if any additional steps are needed for the Financial Aid Office to assess your eligibility and calculate your financial aid awards.
This session will also allow us to check if your FAFSA requires Verification, if there are any special circumstances that warrant a Professional Judgment by the Financial Aid Office, or if you qualify for a Dependency Override due to your specific situation.
Step: 4
Complete Entrance Counseling
Entrance counseling only needs to be completed by students interested in taking a Federal Direct Student Loan and can only be completed once your FSA ID has been validated. For information and steps on successfully completing loan counseling click the following button:
Step: 5
Complete Master Promissory Note
Completing a Master Promissory Note (MPN) is necessary for students planning to secure a Federal Direct Student Loan and requires a validated FSA ID. For details on the MPN and instructions for its completion, click below:
Step: 6
Complete Parent PLUS Loan Documents (Optional)
Parent PLUS Loans offer a borrowing option for birth, adoptive, or step-parents of dependent undergraduate students. These loans are subject to a federal origination fee of 4%, which is deducted proportionately from each disbursement.
Eligibility To Be Considered For A Federal Direct PLUS Loan:
- The Federal PLUS Loan is not based on financial need; however, VskiCosmetology School requires the completion of the FAFSA, which can be completed online at studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/plus/parent.
- The parent must obtain an FSA ID at studentaid.gov/understand-aid/types/loans/plus/parent.
- Students and parents must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen.
- Students and parents must not be in default on a federal education loan or owe an overpayment on an educational grant.
- The student must be enrolled at least half-time.
- The student must attend classes and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
- The applicant cannot have an adverse credit history. A credit check is required for approval.
Application Process:
- Complete the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan Form.
- Provide a photocopy of your Driver’s License/Identification Card and Social Security Card to the Financial Aid Office.
- Complete the PLUS Loan Refund Authorization Worksheet that is attached to the Federal Direct PLUS Loan Form.
- Complete the Online Direct Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN) by visiting Federal Student Aid. This step is required only once per student by the parent while their student(s) are enrolled at Vski Cosmetology School. After completing all necessary steps, please remember to print a copy of the Master Promissory Note for your records. The financial aid office will receive an electronic confirmation within 24 hours.
- Should your student withdraw from school, both the Cost of Attendance and financial aid award amounts will be recalculated. This may lead to a decrease or complete removal of loans or other forms of financial aid.
The Financial Aid Office will inform the student of their financial aid award either through email or a face-to-face meeting. Typically, Vski Cosmetology School applies PLUS Loans only towards tuition costs unless the borrower specifically requests an additional amount to cover living expenses.
Financial aid awards are processed continuously, following the completion and eligibility review of your student’s financial aid file. For the file to be considered complete, your student must fulfill all requests for additional information.
